The new youth racing series, co-hosted by Nick Heidfeld with Dilbagh Gill, the former head of the Mahindra Formula E team, has been renamed Formula G.
The original name of the project was ACE, but that is now a thing of the past and the founders of the series have officially announced that the first season of Formula G will take place in the second half of 2024.
According to the organisers, the stages of the new series will take place on the same weekends and on the same circuits where races in other championships take place. A new electric racing car has been developed for Formula G, the FG-ETwin, whose power plant has special properties, allowing it to reduce the power level when a novice gets behind the wheel, or switch on maximum efficiency. mode when the car is driven by a more experienced driver.
So the same machine can be used in two categories, FG-1 and FG-2. In theory, with an electric car you can complete laps an average of 3.5 seconds faster in the first case.
The approach to organizing the competition is also interesting: they will be held in different regions of the planet, which are united as follows: Europe and Africa, North and South America, Southeast Asia and East Asia.
In each region the idea is to create 10 teams, for which 40 riders and riders will compete, and half of them should compete in FG-1, half in FG-2.
