Esteban Ocon commented on the collision with Fernando Alonso during sprint qualifying in Sao Paulo. The Alpine driver does not agree that he lost control of the car in the second corner and therefore collided with his opponent. Esteban believes the cause of the collision was Alonso shifting to the left halfway through the corner.
Esteban Ocon: “The blow was very powerful, so I experience some painful feelings, but it doesn’t matter: I’m going to the start.
It’s hard to accept this outcome of qualifying as I expected to improve on that lap and progress to the second part, but Fernando stood in my way. I’ve heard people say I lost control of the car, but that’s not true. I corrected the car’s behavior with the steering wheel – the whole paddock does this. It was Fernando who shifted to the left halfway through the corner and didn’t leave me any space – and we collided.
Now it doesn’t matter anymore: this can happen sometimes. Now that is a thing of the past and I am fully focused on the sprint.
Fernando tried to refute all arguments with the stewards that he had not given me a seat. The reality is that if Fernando had been on the right, we would not have collided.”
