Daniel Ricciardo set the eighth fastest time in qualifying ahead of Saturday’s sprint and was generally happy with his performance, unlike yesterday when he performed less than ideal.
Daniel Ricciardo (8th): “Today everything is going much better. Of course yesterday I had the feeling that I could show approximately the same result, but already during the qualifying attempt I knew that it was not the best because of my fault.
And although we are only talking about the nuances, I myself have admitted my mistakes, but today the car on Medium tires makes a good impression and I was very satisfied with the lap I completed in the second part of Saturday’s qualifying.
But the Soft tires let me down again! (laughs) There were some problems in the first two turns, and while not the same as yesterday, they were more serious than I can afford. However, during the lap I managed to make up a little bit.
But the 8th starting position is still not bad, especially because Yuki showed the 6th time, so our team has good results. Personally I was a bit disappointed with the last lap on the soft tyres, but overall it was a good session.
Of course I’m now looking forward to the sprint and although only the top eight get points, we have a chance. We are going to try to ensure that both cars finish in the top eight, we are going to try to do something for this. The main thing is that our car is not bad, and yesterday it was me who did not do enough work.
But today we made it to the qualifying final, and that always makes us feel good. Of course, to some extent I’m dissatisfied that I wasn’t able to do a better lap at the end, but the most important thing is that we fought until the end of qualifying. This is exactly what we want: we really want to sweat behind the wheel of the car and not drop out of contention after the first session.”
