FIA analyzes aftermath of Zhou crash

The accident with Guanyu Zhou at the start of the British Grand Prix was the most serious incident in Formula 1 since the fire of Roman Grosjean in Bahrain in 2020. The Alfa Romeo racer slipped almost 200 meters with the wheels up.

The photo and video of the incident show that the only element of the car separating the rider’s helmet from the ground was the Halo shield, while the upper protective arch, of which the upper air intake is a part, collapsed as a result of friction on the asphalt. According to the calculations of technical specialists of the FIA, at a load of 105 kilonewtons in the vertical direction, 60 kilonewtons in the transverse direction and 70 kilonewtons in the longitudinal direction, the arc should not deform more than 25 millimeters.

Clearly, taxes were higher at the time of Zhou’s accident, and the FIA wants to know what those were and why the rollbar failed.

Immediately after the accident, Zhou was taken to the medical center of the track. Checks showed that the driver is in order and can participate in the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix.

Alex Albon will also perform in Spielberg, who was sent to hospital as a precaution after another incident at the start. Medical tests showed that the Williams rider was unharmed.
