Lando Norris: I was cautious at the start

Lando Norris started from pole position in the sprint, but was overtaken by Max Verstappen in the first corner. The McLaren driver finished second and later stated that he acted too cautiously in the first meters of the race.

Oscar Piastri battled his rivals the entire distance, but finished the same way he started: tenth.

Lando Norris (2nd): “I don’t think Max had more strength. I think I had more power.

I need to reconsider the restart. I started well, but the second part of the start was a bit conservative. I don’t think my wheels were turning – I was just being careful. There will be something more to add tomorrow.

I also slept through George Russell’s attack a bit in the first lap, but then my pace was high. I tried to stay behind Max, but I wasn’t fast enough. Overall it was fun.”

Oscar Piastri (10th): “The race was a lot of fun and of course eventful. I had a good start and in Turn 4 I tried to improve my position, but I overdid it a bit. This caused everything I played to be lost.

In general there were a lot of events, that’s for sure, but we discovered a lot – both in terms of working with tires and in terms of running the race correctly. This information will be useful to us in preparing for Sunday’s Grand Prix, so tonight we will analyze it in detail, and then we will see what we can achieve tomorrow.

Overall, I’m in a pretty confident mood. Tomorrow I will start from the same 10th position from which I started the sprint, but there will be completely different cars around my McLaren. Let’s see what conclusions we come to when we analyze Saturday’s results, and let’s hope we can perform more successfully tomorrow.”
