Leclerc: We decided to save the new Soft kit

Charles Leclerc only set the 7th fastest time in qualifying for the sprint in Sao Paulo. The Ferrari driver explained the result by saying that he drove the last attempt on rolled-in soft tires, as he decided to spare the new set of Soft.

Charles Leclerc: “There is nothing special about this result. I don’t know who else had broken in tires besides us, but we simply didn’t have a new set left for the last attempt. That’s why we expected that we wouldn’t be competitive enough.

We decided to save the new tires for another session this weekend. Let’s see if our decision is justified.

In the sprint I will do my best to regain some positions. Let’s wait and see what happens. Normally we have more problems in races than in qualifying, but today Yuki Tsunoda will start ahead of me and our pace should be higher, so there is a chance to make up positions. After the sprint we will focus all our attention on tomorrow’s race.”
