In Sao Paulo, Alex Albon retired at the start of the first corner after a collision with the Haas drivers. His Williams teammate Logan Sargent was close to earning points: the American driver finished eleventh.
Logan Sargent (11th): “It’s a difficult race. Today we didn’t have the pace to fight against AlphaTauri. We really wanted to take advantage of the retirement of a large number of competitors, but there were problems with tire wear, which prevented us from being fast enough.
Other than that I’m happy that I stayed out of trouble and completed 71 laps. I had some speed on empty this weekend, but now I need to regroup and keep that pace for the next round in Vegas. I still have a home race ahead of me, which I am happy about.”
Alex Albon (meeting): “I got off to a great start. I think I had one of the best starts of anyone. I watched the replay from different cameras and I can say that there was virtually nothing I could do.
Given the number of cars that failed and many ended up in unusual positions due to damage, we were able to qualify for points. When the competition in the Constructors’ Championship is so tight, it is a shame to miss this opportunity.
Today was not our day. Now we have to prepare for the Vegas stage and try to do everything we can.”
