After the finish of the British Grand Prix, Antonio Perez was probably especially excited about the success of his son, who climbed to the second step of the podium. By the way, Sergio succeeded in Formula 1 for the first time in his entire career at Silverstone.
Antonio Perez: “The podium was a pleasant surprise for both me and Sergio, he didn’t know I was on the track by the way. And I was in the stands – imagine: the only Mexican among thousands of British fans who didn’t know I was Sergio Perez’s father!
In my opinion, Silverstone is the temple of motorsport, one of the most important circuits in the world. This is a real race track and the Grand Prix here is incredibly interesting – I really liked everything!
Sergio once lived in Oxford, very close to Silverstone, but even then he often visited the bases of the British teams for which he played in Formula 1 – McLaren, Racing Point … I think you can say that Silverstone is like a second home for him.
Sergio is very popular not only in Mexico, but also in Latin America in general, as he is now the only Latin American driver in Formula 1 and this support is very important. And while the Mexican economy isn’t in the best shape right now, young guys are increasingly interested in motorsports, karting and aspiring to get into other racing categories.
It is very important that the next Sergio Pérez comes from this generation, because when my son made his F1 debut, he became the first Mexican in 30 years in the World Championship.”
