Mike Krak: It is important that we have been able to turn the tide

In Sao Paulo, Fernando Alonso climbed to the podium for the 8th time this season, and his duel with Sergio Perez, not only in the final laps, but also in the last meters of the distance, became one of the most striking episodes of the race From yesterday. At the same time, Lance Stroll rounded out the top five, which is also a pretty decent result for a Canadian.

The last time the two-time world champion finished in the top three was a few months ago at the Dutch Grand Prix in August, but according to Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack, a lot of hard work went into that time, culminating in success in Brazil.

Mike Krak: “This was a great reward for all the efforts we have made in recent months. We spent the first half of the season with confidence, after which there was a slight drop in results and a drop in competitiveness, but everyone continued to work hard and this result confirms that success can be achieved through well-coordinated teamwork.

But while all our attention was focused on the battle between Fernando and Sergio, we almost forgot that Lance Stroll was already overtaking them at that moment. I have noticed that when we give our drivers a good car, they perform exceptionally well. I hope that we will not perform worse in the remaining two races of the season and we will do everything we can to achieve this.

When Sergio Fernando overtook on the penultimate lap, we had already decided that this would be the end, as we did not know the condition of the Mexican’s tires. But Fernando was prepared for the events of the last two laps to unfold in exactly this way, and he already knew how he would act if Perez got ahead of him. This once again confirms that he is a real fighter.”

At the same time, Alonso lost 26 seconds at the finish to Lando Norris, the McLaren driver who took second place, and according to Krack, when analyzing the results of the Brazilian weekend with the team, they will take a comprehensive approach.

“After what has happened in recent months, first and foremost we must celebrate the success, because we have been able to turn the tide, and this is very important,” said the head of Aston Martin F1. – Let’s say we will do this on Monday, but already on Tuesday we will have to think about how to catch up on such a backlog and move forward. I always say we keep fighting and never give up.

We have no influence on what our opponents do, but we must try to do our job as best we can. “Ultimately, in the remaining time before the end of the season, we have to do everything possible to get results, like in Brazil, and then we will see what happens.”
