Qualification

After winning qualifying in Sao Paulo, Max Verstappen took the 31st pole of his career, and his 11th pole of the season is a new record.

Charles Leclerc qualified second and achieved his highest result at Interlagos: his previous record was fifth place last year.

Lando Stroll came third and finished in the top three for the fourth time in his career. For the third time this season, after Spain and Austria, he was ahead of Fernando Alonso.

Fernando Alonso’s fourth place is his best result at Interlagos since the dawn of the hybrid turbo engine era.

Lewis Hamilton set the fifth fastest time, ahead of George Russell for the eleventh time this season.

Sergio Perez qualified ninth and has had just one top-four start in his last fifteen races.

For the first time since 2014, both McLaren drivers started in the top ten.

Race

The victory in Sao Paulo was the 300th in Pirelli’s history, with the first coming in the first Grand Prix in Formula 1 history, at Silverstone in 1950.

After winning the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Max Verstappen achieved the 52nd victory of his career, ahead of Alain Prost. Max now occupies fourth place in the rankings, behind only Hamilton (103 wins), Schumacher (91 wins) and Vettel (53 wins).

Red Bull equaled Mercedes’ record from 2016 by winning 19 Grands Prix in a single season, and surpassed Mercedes’ record from the same year for the number of laps completed in a season (1,060 versus 1,055).

Verstappen won his 17th race of the season, setting a new record for most wins in a single season.

Lando Norris finished second and reached the podium for the 13th time in his career, equaling Nick Heidfeld, Didier Pironi, Gilles Villeneuve, Francois Cevert and Jochen Rindt.

By finishing third, Fernando Alonso equaled Alain Prost in the number of podium places (106).

Sergio Perez’s fourth place increased his lead over Lewis Hamilton in the battle for second place in the individual championship, which he can win ahead of schedule in the next stage in Las Vegas.

Lance Stroll’s fifth place is his best result since the Australian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton’s eighth place is his worst result in Indianapolis since switching to hybrid turbo engines.

Yuki Tsunoda finished ninth and scored his first points in Sao Paulo.
