On the eve of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo took part in the evening show of TV presenter Jimmy Kimmel, which has been broadcast on the American ABC channel for twenty years. In particular, the Australian was asked whether he thinks Formula 1 is becoming increasingly popular in the United States, partly thanks to the documentary series Drive to Survive, produced by Netflix.
“Sure! But it gets to the funny side,” Daniel replied. – People often come up to me and say, “Oh, we saw you on TV! You looked great there!”
And I respond like this: “Do you know I’m a racer?” Otherwise they’ll probably think I’m an actor or just a contestant on a reality show. In general it’s funny, but Formula 1 has really become much more popular. But when I try to remind people what I really do, I think it falls on deaf ears.”
Those who follow Riccardo’s activity on social networks know that he periodically posts funny videos there, filmed somewhere in a car on an ordinary road during a trip: the radio plays, and Daniel sings loudly and very emotionally along with the artists whose songs he likes finds it.
The show’s producers included one of these videos in their broadcast, which caused a firestorm of delight among the audience, and Jimmy Kimmel asked if there are any moments during the races where Daniel also sings his heart out?
“There are moments like that,” the AlphaTauri pilot admitted. – People sometimes ask me if it is possible to play music in a Formula 1 car? Unfortunately I have headphones in my ears and on the radio we are constantly talking to the race engineer, to the team. In general, there is a dialogue going on throughout the race. But if I could listen to music, I think I would go faster!”
Riccardo also knows that Bono, the world-famous rock musician from the group U2, recently mentioned him during a concert in Las Vegas.
“This is one of the best compliments I have ever heard! – overcoming laughter, Daniel said. – In recent years, as the popularity of Formula 1 has soared, there are sometimes incredible moments when you just want to pinch yourself. And this story made a big impression on me!
