Formula 1 has long been working on the 2023 season calendar, which will be formed on a territorial basis to reduce the number of flights between stages. The project has not yet been presented to the general public, but some information about the new calendar has been leaked to the press.
Citing its sources, Dutch newspaper De Limburger writes that the 2023 Formula 1 season will open the Bahrain Grand Prix – the race will be held on March 5. For example, the championship will start two weeks earlier than in 2022. The first leg is preceded by three-day tests in Bahrain.
Two weeks after the Sakhir race, a stage will take place in Saudi Arabia, and a week later – a race in Melbourne. The calendar will feature 23 or 24 stages, depending on whether the Chinese Grand Prix can be held. The fate of the race in Shanghai, in turn, depends on the decision of the Chinese authorities to lift the covid restrictions.
Stages in France and Belgium will leave the calendar. However, the track in Spa still has a chance to race in 2023 if the stage in South Africa is cancelled. At the same time, the Monaco Grand Prix remains on the calendar – according to preliminary data, the organizers of the city stage have managed to reach an agreement on a new contract with Formula 1.
