A few weeks ago it was announced that on the eve of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, several Formula 1 drivers will appear in an unusual capacity: they will exchange their overalls and helmets for golf uniforms.
Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz will take to the course of the elite Wynn Golf Club, where they will play alongside recognized American masters of the sport. These four are considered the best golfers among modern Formula 1 drivers for good reason, as they often pick up clubs in their spare time and train quite seriously.
It’s all called The Netflix Cup and will be broadcast live to the entire world. Presumably, tournament organizers expect the “Netflix Cup” to attract the attention of both motorsport fans and golf fans, of which there are many.
It is now known how the pairings will come about: Norris will be partnered by Rickie Fowler, Sainz will join forces with Justin Thomas, Gasly will be paired with Colin Morikawa and Albon will be paired with Max Homea.
The draw has already taken place: in the first match, Norris and Fowler will play with Sainz and Thomas, in the second the Albon-Home duo will compete with Gasly and Morikawa. The top two pairs will then compete against each other in the final match.
American celebrities, sports and show business representatives will broadcast and participate live, and one has to assume that the sports component of the Netflix Cup will rather remain in the background, and the entertainment side of things will dominate. If everything goes as the tournament organizers plan, the start of the race weekend in Las Vegas promises to be both original and interesting.
