Formula E: Italian round could take place in Vallelunga

In October, the FIA World Motor Sport Council approved the 2024 Electric Car World Championship calendar, which includes a double round in Italy, although the location was not specified. Formula E will travel to this country in mid-April, but it is still unclear where exactly.

It is certain that Rome will not be able to organize it, as it turned out that the third generation Formula E cars (Gen3) are too fast for the street circuit, where the electric series races used to take place, and it is impossible to ensure the necessary safety standards on them . The city council is prepared to make the necessary changes to the design of the ring, but does not promise that this will happen before 2025.

According to Gazztta dello Sport, in this situation, Italian promoters propose to hold the April stage of the electric series on a stationary circuit in Vallelunga. The authorities of the Lazio region are even ready to release 500,000 euros from their budget to organize such a prominent international sporting event, and the corresponding document has already been signed.

Italian politicians support such an idea, but the final decision remains with the FIA. The federation confirmed that it is analyzing possible alternative options, including the Piero Taruffi circuit in Vallelunga and the Marco Simoncelli circuit in Misano.

However, everyone understands that Formula E was originally intended to race on city circuits, and transferring it to traditional circuits is not the most organic solution. Therefore, even if next year’s Italian leg of the electric series takes place in Vallelunga, for example, this will most likely only be a temporary solution.
