The Las Vegas City Circuit will make its Formula 1 debut this weekend. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg said the free practice will be especially important in the upcoming stage as none of the drivers are familiar with the track.
Question: How excited are you about the upcoming Formula 1 event in Las Vegas?
Nico Hulkenberg: We’ve been talking about this event all year, so I’m glad the Vegas race is finally happening. Another home leg for the team and I want to get a good result for us and our fans. It will be difficult, but we have to be willing to take a chance in Sin City!
Q: What can you say about the track itself?
Nico Hulkenberg: None of the riders managed to fully prepare for this stage, so free practice will be very important. I don’t normally do the circuit, but I might do the circuit in Las Vegas as it will be a unique opportunity to see the sights of Las Vegas.
Question: At night, the air temperature in Las Vegas can drop to +5C degrees. How does this affect the car?
Nico Hulkenberg: This is a unique temperature for a race weekend. Let’s see how easy it is to warm up the tires.
Question: The Las Vegas race is the finale of the US season and the final home race for the team. How do you evaluate performances on home stages and how do they differ from other Grand Prix?
Nico Hulkenberg: There was a different level of activity and interest in Miami and the COTA circuit feels like the home of Formula 1 in America as we have been racing there for quite some time. All these stages have a different atmosphere, so I’m curious to see how Vegas fits into our American tour.
