Ahead of the British Grand Prix, Red Bull announced it was terminating its contract with youth program participant Yuri Vips over racist comments during an online game. However, after the race at Silverstone, Red Bull Racing head Christian Horner said the team will continue to support the Estonian driver.
Christian Horner: “We have canceled the agreement with Jüri Vips. There is no doubt that this will give him time to think. However, everyone deserves a second chance at some point if they can prove that they have indeed learned from their mistakes.
He is a young man and despite the end of the agreement, we will continue to support him in the field of mental health and education. I hope he comes to a conclusion.”
At Silverstone, Yuri Vips returned to the wheel of Formula 2 with Hitech. Commenting on this fact, Christian Horner noted that Red Bull has stopped paying for the driver’s performance in the youth series: “The decision was made at Hitech – we are not financing this project. It was the choice of the Formula 2 team and they have their own reasons for this move.”
