Ferrari’s results this season rarely please fans of the Italian team, as the drivers started from pole six times and were on the podium seven times, but only in Singapore did Carlos Sainz manage to take the race to victory.
Of course, the team has a lot of criticism, but German motorsport veteran and former Formula 1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck has great appreciation for the work of Frederic Vasseur in his first year as head of the Scuderia.
“Of course Ferrari has made a lot of mistakes in recent years,” Stuck told Eurosport. “However, I still wonder why it is taking so long for them to return to their previous high positions. I do not understand this.
Many of the failures of previous years are simply unacceptable for a team with such a history as Ferrari. But with the arrival of Vasseur, the necessary order will be established, although this will take time.”
The gap with Red Bull Racing, which dominates the championship, is very large, but the example of McLaren suggests that with the right approach to work during the season it is entirely possible to make very impressive progress.
“This example shows that this is possible. McLaren is doing a great job, it has to be admitted,” Stuck continued. “Their progress must be stimulated above all by Ferrari and Mercedes. These two teams just have to get better.”
Two rounds before the end of the season, Ferrari is fighting for second place in the Constructors’ Championship, currently 20 points behind Mercedes, but if it can get ahead it will already be something of a success. If she remains in 3rd place, she will receive less prize money at the end of the championship than in 2022.
