General Motors Corporation announced that it has officially registered with the FIA as a manufacturer of engines for Formula 1 and plans to supply them to Andretti Cadillac, the future factory team, from 2028.
The application to create a new, 11th World Championship team has already been approved at FIA level, but Andretti’s negotiations with Formula One Management (FOM) are still ahead and will not be easy as most teams there are strongly be against. .
But now GM has taken the next important step by actually committing to becoming a powertrain supplier, primarily to Andretti Cadillac.
“We are pleased to announce that Andretti Cadillac, our new Formula 1 team, will be powered by GM,” said Mark Reuss, president of the American Corporation. “We have extensive knowledge and experience in both engineering and racing and are confident that we can succeed in developing the powertrain for this championship, after which Andretti Cadillac will become a true factory team.

New technical regulations for power units will come into force in the World Championship in 2026, and to date six of their manufacturers are registered with the FIA: Alpine, Audi, Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes and Red Bull Ford.
