Esteban Ocon: Keeping technical meetings to a minimum is important

Esteban Ocon failed to finish at Silverstone due to a fuel pump failure. The Alpine driver is looking forward to a more productive weekend in Austria, where he will start in Formula 1 for the 100th time.

Q: You had a few days to reflect on the past weekend. How do you rate it?
Esteban Ocon: First of all, it’s nice that everything is okay with all participants in the incident in the first round. The accident was terrible, but showed that safety in Formula 1 is at its best.

The team and I had a few days to determine the causes of the fuel pump problem. We know how important reliability is, so minimizing the number of such failures in the future is critical. We are very close to fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, so all thoughts are on achieving this goal.

Q: On Sunday you will start the 100th Grand Prix of your career. Are you proud of this achievement?
Esteban Ocon: Every driver can be proud of the three-digit number of races in Formula 1. You can say that this figure reflects stability and shows that I am a racer with a lot of experience. Even though I know I don’t have the same experience as my partner!

I’ve always dreamed of getting into Formula 1, so it’s nice to know that I already have a hundred races in my account and more to come. But the most important thing is to have a trouble-free weekend and get a good result after a disappointing stage at Silverstone.

Q: What do you expect from the Austrian Grand Prix?
Esteban Ocon: I’m happy to be back on another classic track. The track is located in a picturesque place, the circle is quite short, consisting of ten turns, connected by short and fast straight lines with a noticeable difference in height.

On the Austrian circuit, maximum speed and efficiency during acceleration are important, but in Spielberg, among others, all cars are tested for power, aerodynamic efficiency and braking.

In recent years the weather in Austria has been changeable – usually very hot, but we cannot rule out the possibility of heavy rains. The team is happy to return to the track soon and take part in the race.
