George Russell is confident that Mercedes will be able to recover at the new circuit in Las Vegas after a failed performance in Brazil.
George Russell: “I flew here on Monday, saw these lights and everything, and loved it here. I think everyone is excited that we are in Las Vegas! I think such emotions are experienced not only by the racers, but also by the fans. Journalists are also curious how this unique race will go.
In Brazil our team did not perform successfully, this has many reasons, but this is the nature of the sprint stages: if you do everything right, you will achieve success, and if you make a mistake, you will have no opportunity to correct it. I think after the first five laps of Saturday’s sprint we realized we had made some mistakes.
It’s a shame, of course, because before that weekend we had high expectations, but probably in a way this can also be considered one of the results of the season. Although at the same time I am very impressed by the fact that our team finishes the championship and takes second place in the Constructors’ Championship. The battle with Ferrari continues, but we are determined to stay ahead of them.
Apart from what happened in Brazil, the results of the previous races gave a lot of hope. In Singapore we had our car fighting for the win, in Qatar it was also very fast, and although we had some problems in Japan, the W14 was again capable of excellent speed in Austin and Mexico.
Certainly, the failure in Brazil was an isolated incident, and I think we will have a chance to claim good results here in Las Vegas. It’s cold here, this track is new for everyone, so we will try to cope with the task better than our rivals. Although it is of course still unclear how everything will turn out.”
