Gunter Steiner: FIA must do better

We wrote that Haas F1 protested the results of the US Grand Prix, claiming that not all track boundary violations had been counted. The stewards did not reconsider the results, but admitted that some violations may indeed have been missed – and that the FIA must do better.

In Las Vegas, team leader Günther Steiner was happy that a certain result had been achieved.

Günter Steiner: “I don’t regret that we filed a protest. Knowing that it would be difficult to achieve our goal, we at least tried.

The stewards essentially told the FIA that they were not doing their job properly within the federation. And this is important. We have not achieved the actual result, but in life we must fight and strive to change it for the better.

If the FIA had had a camera at Turn 6 we wouldn’t have had to protest. They have to provide resources to comply with regulations, and it turns out we have more information than they do. But that’s not our job. We are not a governing body, we are a racing team and we pay the FIA to do this work.

Many people share our concerns, but so far no one is doing anything. And yet there is hope that the situation will change for the better in the future.”
