Oscar Piastri hopes to perform better in Las Vegas than in previous weekends, when for some reason he failed to achieve stability, according to the Australian McLaren driver.
Oscar Piastri: “I’m heading into this weekend in a confident mood, although several previous stages were difficult for different reasons, but the car is able to reach good speeds, especially in one fast lap. The only question is to bring everything together at the right time and achieve stability.
I couldn’t always get a good lap in qualifying and during the races there were incidents involving other drivers, but let’s hope we can avoid any problems this time.
The circuit in Las Vegas is new for everyone and this evens the odds somewhat, so let’s hope we can show a good result. The circuit is unique in that it has long straights and slow corners, and the sessions take place in fairly cold temperatures. There are many factors, so we will try to get everything right.
I wouldn’t say I was at a disadvantage compared to others on unfamiliar tracks – I just don’t want to use that as an excuse. But in weekends like Austin or Brazil my task was of course a little more difficult, but even there I showed a good pace. I repeat, the only question is to put everything together at the right time – this was precisely the difficulty.
The Austin circuit is very rough and we couldn’t find the right approach for it; In Brazil, the weather in the qualifying final made for a real doomsday, which didn’t help either. In general, some difficulties constantly arose that prevented us from achieving stability. But I haven’t done my best in recent weekends either.
But the great thing is that this weekend we have three practice sessions on a circuit that is new for everyone.”
