Lewis Hamilton said Mercedes has come to terms with the mistakes made in Sao Paulo and the team is more confident ahead of the weekend in Las Vegas.
Lewis Hamilton: “We haven’t driven on the circuit in Las Vegas yet, but I like it here. I think we’ve been dreaming of a race in this city for years, but I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that we’re already here: it’s amazing!
In Sao Paulo we had the feeling that this was one of the worst weekends for our team in many years, but there we simply made a miscalculation in the choice of car settings. The W14 has potential because we had great performances in the previous two races, so it’s our own fault. But this was a lesson for us, and such an experience, although painful, is very useful.
The team already knew what the mistake was, and I knew it then. Now, however, we are all determined to finish the season in the best possible way, and we are in a confident mood heading into Las Vegas. Although it is clear that difficulties await us, including that it will not be easy to make the tires work effectively, and on the straights our car is not always fast.
We will try to lose less to our rivals on the straights and keep up with them in the corners. But this song isn’t the most technical, so let’s hope we can handle it.
I lose 32 points to Sergio Perez, who occupies 2nd place in the individual competition, but it is hardly realistic to regain them in the two remaining races. But to be honest, it doesn’t really matter to me whether I finish the championship in 2nd or 3rd place.
I think given the kind of car we have, we can still consider that we did a great job this year. I didn’t think at all that our team would be able to challenge for second place in the Constructors’ Championship, and I am grateful that we are performing at this level. This season is going much better than the last.”
