Bruno Famen, vice-president of Alpine Motorsport, who effectively heads the Renault factory team, spoke on Sky Sports about the consequences of unexpected problems that arose at the start of the first practice session at the Las Vegas circuit.
Due to hard contact with the displaced frame of one of the holes in the drainage system, the front part of the chassis of Esteban Ocon’s car suffered serious damage.
Bruno Famen: “I can’t say for sure yet, but it is possible that the time of the second training will be increased to an hour and a half – I have heard that this is being discussed. I believe the FIA understands well what needs to be done in such a situation, and I have no doubt that they do.
Esteban Ocon’s car has suffered very serious damage and we have to replace the chassis. Changing the floor is not that difficult, but to change the chassis the car must be completely disassembled. Therefore, the team faces a very difficult task: everything must be done before the start of the second training.
The front part of the chassis is damaged, but so bad that we can no longer work on the track.”
