Verstappen: We have to reduce the degradation of the tires during the course

Max Verstappen set the sixth fastest time in the second training session of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, losing more than nine-tenths of a second to the holder of the best time, Charles Leclerc. The Red Bull Racing driver said that he had completed the entire planned program, but that he did not like the track.

His teammate Sergio Perez ended the session with a fourth result.

Max Verstappen: “The track is slippery and in the first practice we were only able to complete a few laps. In the second session it took some time before the asphalt became covered with a layer of waste rubber. Towards the end of the session, track conditions improved slightly. We were able to complete the entire planned program, which is the most important thing.

I didn’t particularly enjoy driving on this track. I mentioned yesterday that there’s nothing new on this issue that I haven’t seen in the past.

Tyres? The Soft setup isn’t bad for one lap, but over long distance they don’t look their best. Medium tires are also not an obvious choice for a long series of laps.

We need to find a solution to reduce rubber degradation throughout the course. However, we look quite good compared to the rest, but I think we can do better. As I said, choosing the line-up for the race will not be easy.”
