Driver of the Ferrari Formula 1 team Carlos Sainz will lose 10 positions on the starting grid of the Las Vegas Grand Prix (USA) for the third battery change during the current season, reports the press service of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The first practice sessions for the Las Vegas Grand Prix ended earlier than expected after Sainz retired. The Spaniard’s car stopped on the track, after which red flags were hung. The Spaniard damaged the car by going through a drainage hatch. It was later established that the frame of one of the hatch covers in the first sector had been damaged. Ferrari was forced to install a third battery on the Spaniard’s car and exceeded the limit for this component for a season.
Sainz showed the second result in the second free practice. First place was taken by his teammate Charles Leclerc, third was Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.
Third practice and qualifying will take place on Saturday. The Las Vegas Grand Prix race will take place on Sunday.
