The start of the second training session in Las Vegas had to be postponed due to problems with the drainage system hatches; after a long break it started at half past one in the morning, and a few minutes before that the police kicked the fans out of the stands and free seats. A few hours later the theater promoter clarified the situation…
“There is no greater priority in Formula 1 than the safety of drivers, fans and staff.
Following the drainage incident, Formula 1 and the FIA have decided to take additional measures to ensure that these problems do not reoccur before the resumption of competition.
These additional measures took several hours to complete, resulting in a significant schedule change. Given the late hour and the logistical challenges of getting fans and staff off the track safely, the event organizer made the difficult decision to close fan access until the start of the second practice session.
Now that we have successfully completed the full training cycle, we hope to provide everyone with a safe and exciting race weekend,” the official statement said.
