On Friday in Las Vegas, Alpine mechanics managed to fit a car for Esteban Ocon on a different chassis after he accidentally touched the open drain cover during the first practice…
Pierre Gasly (15th): “Crazy night in Las Vegas! I don’t think we’ll ever drive a Formula 1 car at three in the morning again.
It’s fun driving on the highway for the first time. With all the lights and iconic sights it looked amazing. We lost time in the first practice, so it was important to make the most of the second to prepare for the next sessions of the weekend.
We have learned a lot, now we have to analyze the data and get more out of the car before we qualify.”
Esteban Ocon (16th): “The evening turned out to be eventful and very emotional, to say the least! On the one hand it was incredibly cool to drive through the legendary streets of Las Vegas for the first time, on the other hand it was a shame that the first training session ended prematurely.
In the early laps my car was seriously damaged after hitting a loose drain hatch and we had to replace the chassis. Despite the tight deadline, the team managed to get the car ready for the start of the postponed second session.
The second training went smoothly. We tried different settings, studied the behavior of the tires and the conditions on the track. I liked the process. I think qualifying and the race will be interesting.”
