AlphaTauri’s best result in the second practice session of the Las Vegas Grand Prix was seventeenth place for Yuki Tsunoda, who was more than two seconds behind leader Charles Leclerc. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo ended the session with a 19th fastest time. The team is not discouraged and believes that they can improve on Saturday thanks to the information collected.
Yuki Tsunoda (17th): “The first training did not resume, so I feel sorry for the fans, but safety comes first. It took a while for the second session to start, but in the end we were able to work on the track for 90 minutes and gather valuable information.
The asphalt is quite slippery, but I liked the track itself, especially the curbs, which can be attacked quite aggressively, which is nice.
Our speed is not yet impressive, but the team has collected a lot of useful information and I am sure that this information will help us take some steps forward. We understand our limitations, but we try to work around them. The pace over the long series of laps has already become faster. The team will continue to work together to get the best out of the car.”
Daniel Ricciardo (19th): “Long day on a track with very little grip. The second training started later than planned, but sometimes that happens.
We had a smooth session and learned a lot. Since the job is new, especially in the city, it took more time to feel comfortable. You should always leave some margin, because mistakes can be costly.
We changed a few things in the settings and the car got better in the long run. I don’t think we will have any problems with the speed in qualifying. I am sure that if we can bring all the components together, we can fight to reach the final.”
