Hulkenberg: The car drives well during a fast lap

Nico Hulkenberg set the seventh fastest time in the second practice of the Las Vegas Grand Prix and noted the car’s high speed during a fast lap. His Haas teammate Kevin Magnussen said the low grip on the asphalt made driving fun.

Nico Hulkenberg (7th): “It was an interesting day and the circumstances were unique for everyone involved. I think the start time of the second training at 2:30 am will remain a record for a long time. I don’t think it will be that easy to top.

We gradually got to know the route and came to the conclusion that everything was not too bad, but of course there is still a lot to be done. We’ll see what we can do with the settings, but today the car drove well, at least on the fast lap.”

Kevin Magnussen (13th): “We did the first laps in Las Vegas – not a bad track, I had a good time. As usual it is necessary to increase the speed, but after a long wait we at least managed to do a few laps and gather information for tomorrow.

On the real track there were no big surprises compared to the simulator – the grip is very low, but that makes it a lot of fun.”

Gunther Steiner, team leader: “Not the best start to the first session, which lasted less than ten minutes. I think it was the right decision to wait until the track was repaired. Then we could do a few more laps. Because time was lost in the first session, the second session was extended to 90 minutes.

We, like everyone else, were tired, but had enough strength to complete the training. The information collected will help with the third session. I think we are well prepared for the new stage, but we have to keep working so that the cars are fast in qualifying and in the race.”
