Fans with one-day tickets, who actually watched only eight minutes of the first training session on Thursday and were removed from the track before the start of the second, will receive vouchers worth $200 from the organizers with which they can purchase merchandise in the official Formula 1 online store as compensation.
Las Vegas Grand Prix director Renee Wilm explained why fans were asked to leave the track.
Rene Wilm: “Firstly, we were concerned about the security guards who had been on duty for a long time. Secondly, we were concerned about the drivers responsible for delivering fans to hotels. Under federal law, they have exceeded the time limit in which they can legally and safely operate buses.
Finally, our staff needed to be able to clean and replenish guest areas to ensure an optimal fan experience in the coming days.
We hope fans will understand that we have had to balance the interests of many parties, including the safety of all participants and the fan experience during the race weekend.
We have all been to events such as concerts, competitions and even other Formula 1 races that have been canceled due to factors such as weather or technical problems. These things happen and we hope people will understand.”
