Vasseur: I’m sure we can have a good race

The Ferrari drivers were the fastest in qualifying in Las Vegas, and without the penalty given to Carlos Sainz yesterday, the red cars would have occupied the entire front row of the grid. In reality, Charles Leclerc will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix from pole, and his partner will start from twelfth position.

Frederic Vasseur, head of the Scuderia, is on the one hand happy with these results on Saturday, but on the other hand he made it clear that he finds the decision on the fine ambiguous: “From the very beginning of the weekend, our business has been very different. Everything was chaotic on Friday, but the most important thing is that we focused completely on the sporting aspects and today we tried to show the highest possible result.

Yesterday we were fined and we can start a discussion about that because we know it is unfair, but on weekends there is no point in doing this so we have to stay focused and try to achieve the maximum in this situation . We start from 1st and 12th position and now it is important to focus all our attention on preparing for the race.

During practice we showed quite a good pace in long heats, although we understand that the track conditions will change every lap as the asphalt is new and the temperatures are quite low. We must be prepared for every scenario, acting correctly both on the pit wall and on the track to choose the right pace depending on the lap.

Overall, the team showed excellent results. Charles again showed skill and speed in one fast lap, but Carlos was almost as good as him. It is important that we were on the first lines of the protocol in every session, so we were well prepared for the stage in Las Vegas. But points are only awarded after the race, so now it’s important to focus on the tasks ahead.

We will work on tactics, because on such circuits the situation can develop differently, including the possibility of a safety car appearing, etc. I’m sure we can have a good race, but it is also worth mentioning that there are four Ferrari cars are in the top ten, which is nice.”
