Valtteri Bottas: We have a good chance to score points

Valtteri Bottas reached the final qualifying round in Las Vegas. The Alfa Romeo driver set the eighth fastest time, but will start seventh thanks to Carlos Sainz’s penalty. His teammate Guanyu Zhou hit traffic on a fast lap, setting the eighteenth fastest time and ending the battle in the first session.

Valtteri Bottas (8th): “I am satisfied with my performance today. A great result for our team and a good chance of points. It’s a shame that the first session proved difficult for Zhou, otherwise we could have reached the final with two cars.

In any case, we can be happy with the pace, because we were able to get the car into the optimal range and get the most out of it in every qualifying session. There is no magic solution, but we are putting all the pieces together. The team improved in many small areas, which allowed us to achieve this result.”

Guanyu Zhou (18th): “We had a good pace, which allowed us to compete for a place in the second part. The weekend started difficult for me, but I managed to improve compared to Friday. Unfortunately I got stuck in traffic on the last lap and was unable to improve my time when the track was in better condition.

However, we are fighting against our main rivals, which gives hope in the race. There is no doubt that it will be difficult if you start from the ninth row, but we are ready for different options. With a successful start and an aggressive strategy it is possible to regain several places.”
