Leclerc: I’m starting from pole and that’s the most important thing

Charles Leclerc confirmed his reputation as one of the best qualifiers in Formula 1: in Las Vegas, the Ferrari driver will start from pole for the fifth time this season and the 23rd in his career.

Charles Leclerc: (1st): “Of course I’m happy. I won the first qualifying match in Las Vegas, where a wonderful sporting event takes place. But I’m a little disappointed with how I did my laps in the last session.

I didn’t do my best, although it was enough to win pole, and we don’t need anything else. But now it is necessary to fully concentrate on the tasks that need to be solved in tomorrow’s race. We usually lack speed in races, so I hope we can put it all together and win.

In my opinion I did my best lap in the 2nd session, although I should have done the same in the final. But it didn’t work. In any case, I will start from pole position and that is the most important thing.”

Carlos Sainz (2nd): “First of all, we must note the excellent work of the entire team. Together we managed to achieve dominance in qualifying after yesterday’s difficulties. We were able to put my car back together and the Ferrari took up the entire front row – it’s incredible!

Of course I would love to win pole position, because then I would start from eleventh and not from twelfth, but today we showed the best possible result. The fine I got yesterday still upsets me. I won’t lie, I’m still in a really bad mood because of him, but I’m trying to show it less. However, as it is, so is it.

The situation in the race will largely depend on how the start goes and what the degree of rubber degradation will be. I also wonder how easy it will be to overtake.

It looks like we are doing well in terms of pace this weekend and in tomorrow’s race I want to challenge Charles and Max for the win. Unfortunately, I will have to start from the depth of the field and recoup as the distance progresses. I hope at some point I can get ahead and fight with the leaders, but I think it won’t be easy.”
