Mario Isola: Our prediction turned out to be correct

In La Vegas many complained about the fast granulation of the tires and the lack of grip, but Pirelli thinks everything went well…

Mario Isola: “It was an hour and a half of spectacular racing,
Which delighted the crowd in Las Vegas, as well as those who followed it on TV. Overtaking, collisions, safety car visits, mistakes and successful maneuvers by the drivers: the best of Formula 1 fits into 50 laps. This is a great advertisement for Formula 1 in the US, a perfect combination of racing and show, as evidenced by the awards ceremony.

We saw that our prediction was correct: the difference between the strategy of one and two pit stops was small. The Hard tires performed well in the race, although they suffered some from granulation. The Medium tires, chosen at the start by three-quarters of the participants, also behaved well, although they required more careful driving, especially in the initial phase. Even those fighting for the win, like Leclerc, were able to extend the first segment to almost half the distance.

The Soft tyres, used only by Stroll and Tsunoda at the start, provided a good lead in the early laps, but were less competitive in the long run.

Today we again saw conditions on the highway change as it was open to traffic at night, increasing the granularity.”
