McLaren knew in advance that the new city circuit in Las Vegas was not the best fit for the MCL60 car, but still the results could have been higher this weekend, but the team was unlucky.
Oscar Piastri (10th): “We did well for a significant part of the race and it is of course a shame that I had to make another pit stop. Our pace was excellent and it was also nice that I got an extra bonus point for the fastest lap.
I think a lot of people had problems today and the race was quite chaotic. If you remember everything that happened on the track, we can assume that we did everything we could. We can only regret that we had to start from such distant positions, but also some events during the Grand Prix did not allow us to achieve more.
After qualifying we knew we were capable of a good pace, but we still expected to show slightly higher speeds in the race. Yesterday we were unlucky, it made our task more difficult, but at least we know we have a fairly efficient car, and this helped even on a track that is not the best for us. Let’s hope we can do better in Abu Dhabi.”
Lando Norris (not completed): “The end of the weekend in Las Vegas was not successful. On the restart the car scraped the track with its underside, destabilizing the rear end and sending me crashing into the wall. This is not how we wanted to end this stage, especially since Oscar was able to show good pace.
Many thanks to the doctors for carrying out the examination, as well as to the team for all the efforts to restore my car. Now we have a week to reorganize and prepare for the season finale in Abu Dhabi.”
Andrea Stella, team manager: “The most important thing is that Lando is doing well after the accident that took place on a very fast part of the track, although it looked a bit scary.
Today our car was able to drive at a good pace. Lando was able to recover after starting from 15th position, reaching the top ten and receiving an extra bonus point for the fastest lap.
Two points is not so much compared to what we earned in previous stages, but they are also important to maintain 4th place in the Constructors’ Championship.
The weekend in Las Vegas was not easy and now we need to regroup, rest if possible and prepare for the season finale. We expect the Abu Dhabi stage to be much better, partly because this circuit should suit our car better.”
