Ricciardo: We had tire problems this weekend

In Las Vegas, a series of three Grand Prix in a row in which AlphaTauri earned points was interrupted. On the city circuit, the Italian team’s best result was Daniel Ricciardo’s fourteenth place. Yuki Tsunoda retired four laps before the finish due to power plant problems.

Daniel Ricciardo (14th): “I was looking forward to the race with optimism. We knew it would be a challenge at the start and restart as we had problems this weekend getting the cold and new tires to work on slippery asphalt. It took a few laps to get the tires up to speed and get back into contention, but that didn’t happen during the race. This is not an excuse, but there is a problem and everything must be analyzed to understand the reasons.

Closer to the finish a few cars lost speed, which increased our pace slightly, but this was not enough to qualify for a top ten finish.

In a week there will be a race on a track where you have to set the car up for medium downforce, so I’m optimistic. A completely different story awaits us there, and in the coming days we must rest and recover.”

Yuki Tsunoda (meeting): “The team used different settings this weekend. In my case, we took a risk, but the approach yielded no results. I had a clean start and stayed out of trouble, which allowed me to gain a few positions, but unfortunately we didn’t have the pace to finish in the top ten.

We are happy that we challenged ourselves because we knew we had pace problems. I had to try something and I like challenges. That decision was not made today, but that doesn’t matter because I was released anyway.

Now I’m looking forward to the race in Abu Dhabi, where we will aim to earn points. Anything can happen, so we will try to do everything we can.”
