Alex Albon: The tires were heavily granulated

Both Williams drivers started from the top ten in Las Vegas, but neither Alex Albon nor Logan Sargent scored points. The team attributed this result to heavy tire granulation during the race and a failed safety car.

Alex Albon (12th): “Today the tires were heavily granulated. It was difficult and the safety car didn’t help as most made their pit stops at this point without losing position.

One of those races that require analysis. At first everything went well, but halfway through the distance after the safety car I was left with old tires and had to fight with my rivals. Instead of going at my own pace, I was forced to attack harder, which only made the situation worse.

However, there are also positive results from the weekend. Everything didn’t go that badly, although it’s a shame that we didn’t manage to earn any points. We will continue to fight for seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship until the end of the season.”

Logan Sargent (16th): “I don’t think we did anything wrong today. After the first lap we were in fifth and sixth place, which was the goal. We had a good first stint, but as expected the faster cars started to gain ground towards the end.

We stuck to the strategy and switched to hard tires, which were intended to reach the finish. We were in a good position but the second safety car destroyed any chance we had. We simply had no way to go to the pits for a new set of tires.

The competitors gained an advantage thanks to the tires, but I tried to hold them off until the finish. We did well this weekend and stuck to the plan, but we just had some bad luck.”
