After watching several episodes of the fourth season of Drive To Survive, Max Verstappen declined to star in the fifth. He was dissatisfied with how he was shown, what fragments of the interview were used – and said at the beginning of the year that he would not act in film, as it could interfere with the promotion of his personal brand.
The producers didn’t like this, as Max is one of the main characters, and they agreed to give the racer more influence on how he will look on screen. At Silverstone, Verstappen commented on the situation…
Max Verstappen: “I just wanted to be able to influence the way I look at the show, not the way I used to – giving interviews and not knowing what they’re going to do with it. That’s all I ask, plus the series will get closer to reality, at least on my side.
I can’t influence how they show others, but I want to be in control of what happens to me. I hope everything works out. I understand that the Netflix series has really contributed to the growth of Formula 1, especially in the US, and I don’t mind playing my part in that.”
