Leo Turini: Charles Leclerc made me very happy

Leo Turini, the famous Italian racing journalist, started his commentary on the results of the Las Vegas Grand Prix with a quote from Stefano Domenicali, the president of Formula 1, before highlighting some key moments of the past weekend, namely both scandalous and spectacular at the same time.

“You understand of course that I have nothing to do with the drainage pit problems, just as I have nothing to do with the fine imposed on Sainz as this is handled by the FIA. If we talk about the events on the track, this race was one of the most spectacular,” said Stefano Domenicali.

I would like to add something to this.

I don’t know where Carlos Sainz would have finished if he had started from the front row, and his move to the back of the grid was and remains outrageous.

Charles Leclerc made me very happy. It is difficult for me to understand those who do not have warm feelings for him. He may not be perfect, but he’s a great racer.

As for Max Verstappen, I don’t even know what to say about him; he manages to win races even when he is in a difficult situation. Overall, he’s not just a racer, he’s a phenomenal racer. Moreover, he is the most sincere of all and says out loud what he deems necessary. I take my hat off to him.

Now Ferrari and Mercedes are only four points apart in the team standings. I understand that if the Scuderia is only fighting for 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship, the purists don’t care much about that, but you have to be able to look forward to good news, even if it is small.

And now about the stage in Las Vegas itself. I’ll keep it short: apart from the insurmountable American passion for anything that is just a side dish to the main events, there is no denying that this Grand Prix was one of the most exciting of the season and worthy of a racing Oscar. At least made of wood. Although personally I will always prefer Spa or Suzuka, but that’s another story.
