Vesti returns at the wheel of a Mercedes W14 in Abu Dhabi

Frédéric Vesti, a Mercedes youth driver, will drive the W14 in the first practice session in Abu Dhabi next Friday, followed by a full post-season test day next Tuesday, November 28.

Last month the 21-year-old Dane spent Friday training in Mexico City in George Russell’s car and will drive Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes at the Yas Marina Circuit. Moreover, he will start testing on a real circuit a year after his first experience with Formula 1 technology: at the end of 2022, after the end of the season, he drove the W13 in the same tests in Abu Dhabi.

Frederic is preparing to complete his second season in Formula 2, and while he took 9th place in the individual competition last year, he is now in 2nd place going into the final of the youth championship. This year he has won four times and finished on the podium three more times and still has a shot at the title.

Frederik Vesti: “Working during the first training in Abu Dhabi will be the next step in my career. My first experience participating in an official Formula 1 race weekend session was in Mexico City, and it was an important moment. I learned a lot and was very happy to help the team and work with Lewis and George.

Now I am preparing to build on this experience at the Yas Marina Circuit. I know this circuit well, so it will undoubtedly be easier for me to reach the desired speed in one hour of training. I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the W14 again during the first free practice and testing after the end of the season. I would like to thank the team again for this opportunity.”

Andreas Shovlin, Chief Race Engineer: “Frederic did a good job in his first training in Mexico City, executing the program well and helping us at the start of the weekend. In Abu Dhabi he will return to the wheel of our car, and we are preparing for this.

He has a busy weekend ahead of him as he also takes part in the Formula 2 season finale. However, he is showing maturity and confidence and I have no doubt he will try to achieve the best possible results.”
