Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll continues to insist that Formula 1 does not need an eleventh team. The Canadian businessman believes that if Michael Andretti wants to participate in Formula 1, he should buy one of the existing teams and not create a new team.
Lawrence Stroll: “Look at the path Audi has taken. They wanted to come to Formula 1 and bought a team for this. This is the right approach. Today, if you want to play in the NFL, NHL or any other major sports league, you buy an active team. It’s just a matter of money, so I think if Andretti wants to compete in Formula 1, they should buy the existing team, as others have done.
I am not afraid of sports competition from them. Starting from scratch is very difficult, even with many years of experience in the racing industry. I wish them the best of luck, but the decision does not depend on me, but on the FIA and FOM. Let’s see what they decide.”
