Fernando Alonso called this season one of the best of his career…
Fernando Alonso: “I am very satisfied with my performance this season. I think 2012 was the best year for me personally, but this year is also very good. I was motivated, in good shape and a great pilot.
Bahrain, Monaco, Canada, Monza and Brazil are among the top five races this year. I specifically highlighted Monza, although I only finished ninth there. It wasn’t a podium, it wasn’t something people will remember, but in Monza our car was the fastest or the second worst, but I was able to earn points.
Could we have won the race? Probably. In Monaco the chances were good, but the tires had to be changed. There was also an opportunity in Zandvoort.
I only see the positive. Fighting is part of our job, part of this team’s journey. We started the season well with a car that was surprisingly competitive. We fought against Mercedes and Ferrari. Maybe we lost a little bit during the season in terms of car development.
We are not yet at the highest level and at the end of the year we were not yet that fast. But 12 months ago we couldn’t have imagined that everything would turn out so great. I remember very well the tests after last year’s race here with the team. And if someone said we would be in the position we are in now, I wouldn’t believe it.”
