With one round to go before the end of the season, Alfa Romeo is in penultimate place in the constructors’ championship. Valtteri Bottas believes the team still has a chance to beat AlphaTauri, and he expects to be able to fight for higher positions next year as the team builds an entirely new car.
Valtteri Bottas: “The race in Las Vegas was a race of missed opportunities. Our car was particularly fast on that track. We were in the top ten in every session, including qualifying, but everything went wrong in the first corner of the race when my car was damaged. This outcome is difficult to accept, but sometimes it happens in racing. There will be another opportunity to earn points in Abu Dhabi.
We are only looking ahead, so we will try to stay ahead of AlphaTauri in the Constructors’ Championship. The difference is only five points, so the goal is quite achievable. However, this year we haven’t scored as many points, so everything has to be done perfectly this weekend. But to achieve your goal, you need to focus on solving your own problem.
For next season we are preparing a completely new car, in which new ideas from new team members will be implemented. We have to take a big step forward next winter.”
