On Thursday, the stewards in Abu Dhabi summoned the leaders of the Mercedes and Ferrari teams. The reason for the procedure was the swear word used by Toto Wolff and Frederic Vasseur at the FIA press conference in Las Vegas.
The stewards concluded that Wolff and Vasseur had breached Article 12.2.1.f of the FIA International Sporting Code and issued them both a formal warning.
The penalty could have been more severe, but the stewards took into account that the press conference took place after the first training session and Frederic Vasseur was very upset by the fact that due to the open drainage hatch, Carlos Sainz’s car was seriously damaged.
In the case of Toto Wolff, the mitigating circumstance was that it is not usual for the Mercedes boss to use unprintable language.
