Russell set fastest time in first practice for Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Shvartsman finished eighth

British Mercedes driver George Russell became the winner of the first free practice of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Briton’s best lap time was 1 minute 26.072 seconds.

The second result was shown by Brazilian Felipe Drugovich from Aston Martin (+0.288), the top three was closed by Daniel Ricciardo from Alpha Tauri (+0.361).

Russian and Israeli driver Robert Shvartsman took part in the first free practice sessions at the wheel of a Ferrari, replacing Charles Leclerc. He is in eighth place. His teammate Carlos Sainz finished seventh.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who became Formula 1 champion earlier than expected, and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) did not participate in the session.

The second free practice session will take place later on Friday.
