Lance Stroll and Logan Sargent received penalties for creating dangerous situations on the track during the first practice.
In the case of the Aston Martin driver, the wording is that he drove too slowly between turns 15 and 16, although there was no particular reason for this, for which his team was fined 5,000 euros.
Judging from the explanation Lance gave when he was called to the stewards, he did not see in the mirrors that a Mercedes was approaching him with Frederic Vesti behind the wheel, and the team did not have time to warn him either.
The infringement by the American Williams driver was recorded on the same part of the track, namely: between turns 15 and 16, but the wording is slightly different: “incorrect actions on the track.” For this, Sargent received a warning (this is his second warning this season) and the team was fined the same amount: 5,000 euros.
Preparing for his fast lap, with his engineer fully focused on it, Logan was alerted that an Alpine car, driven by Jack Duane, was closing in on him just a second earlier. The situation was indeed dangerous and could have ended in an accident.
Sargent was warned for this: “changed direction too late instead of staying on a predictable trajectory.”
