Pirelli chief engineer Simone Berra summarized the results of Friday’s training…
Simone Berra: “Today’s sessions left a lot of questions about the tires. Despite the fact that the weekend takes place in a classic format, the first session proved unusual: half of the cars were driven by young racers working according to their own program.
The second session, which started at sunset when the air temperature dropped by ten degrees, was interrupted twice by red flags, making it even more difficult to assess the behavior of the tires. The numbers speak for themselves: 318 laps were completed today in FP2, compared to 543 last year.
Given the choice of teams, it can be assumed that hard tires will be the best choice in the race. There was some granularity, but track conditions improved quickly. Through the rounds on Soft and Medium we were able to determine that the gap between these two compositions is approximately half a second.”
