‘Please don’t jump on our racetracks’ – Hamilton responds to anti-oil protest

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton commented on the episode with the exit of the activists on the track during the British Grand Prix.

Stop Oil released a statement on social media: “We did it anyway. This action was covered in the national press two days ago, but a handful of ordinary people who decided to tell the truth thwarted the British government and the police. The unrest will end when new oil and gas supplies cease.

“As we saw today it is a very dangerous sport. I was unaware of the protests today and while I will always support those who stand up for what they believe in, it must be done safely. Please don’t jump on our racetracks in protest, we don’t want to put you at risk,” Hamilton wrote on social media.

Northamptonshire Police said they arrested seven people who burst onto the track at the start of the race.
