On Wednesday, an event took place in Fiorano that the Ferrari press service has already called historic: Alessandro Pier Guidi, two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMGTE-Pro category, brought the latest hypercar made in Maranello to the factory test track.
This LMH class car will debut in the 2023 World Endurance Championship and will be overseen by Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna for its first run-in.
“After working on the simulator for many months, I finally got the chance to get behind the wheel of a real car – it was a great experience,” said Pierre Guidi. – Driving a Ferrari car, with which our company returns to the highest category of endurance racing after a break of 50 years, I experienced very strong emotions.
Although we are at the very beginning of the journey, there is still a lot of work to do, but the feeling is very positive. I am proud to embark on the LMH class car as exciting new adventures await Ferrari.”
The work the Italian started was continued by Niklas Nielsen, another Ferrari factory driver. During the day, engineers from the company’s sports department checked the operation of all the systems of the car, which will undergo an intensive program of testing before it takes off for the first time. By the way, this year marks exactly half a century from the day the Ferrari factory Fiorano test site was opened, and it is symbolic in its own way that it began testing the car with which the Italian company returns 50 years to sports prototype racing after the last official participation in it.
